What is RPM on YouTube?

RPM stands for Revenue Per Mille. Unlike CPM which measures what advertisers pay, RPM measures what you actually earn per 1,000 views on your channel. It includes all your earnings (AdSense, memberships, sponsorships, tips) divided by total views, making it the most accurate metric of your channel's monetization efficiency.

The RPM Formula

To calculate RPM, use this formula:

RPM = (Total Revenue Earned / Total Video Views) * 1000

Example Calculation

If you earned $600.00 on your channel from a video that received 150,000 views, your RPM rate is:

($600 / 150,000) * 1000 = $4.00 RPM

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is RPM lower than CPM?
RPM is typically lower because it is calculated based on all video views (even those that did not display ads), and it represents your earnings after YouTube takes its 45% revenue share.
How can I increase my channel's RPM?
You can boost your RPM by creating longer videos (allowing mid-roll ads), targeting tier-1 country audiences, choosing high-paying niche topics, and adding memberships or affiliate links.
